Abstract

Hemangioma is a common tumor characterized by the proliferation of blood vessels. Some autho-rities believe that this lesion is not a true neoplasm, but rather a developmental anomaly or hamartoma. Most cases are present at birth or arise at an early age, and central hemangioma of the mandible or maxilla is uncommon. Treatment modalities for a hemangioma are control of hemorrhage, eradica-tion of the lesion, and prevention of recurrence. The prognosis of the lesion is excellent since it does not recur after adequate removal or destruction. Our results showed that surgery and therapeutic arterial embolization are valuable therapeutic procedures. Two cases of hemangiomas which are peripheral type and central type are presented with a review of the literature.
